What is E-BOB (Elementary Battle of the Books)?

Elementary Battle of the Books is a program that challenges students to read a selection of novels and compete as a team in answering various questions.  The purpose of Elementary Battle of the books is to motivate students to read, monitor their own comprehension, and become active participants in book discussions.  Battle of the Books encourages students to read quality literature on a variety of topics and themes,  The books are written at different levels that will both challenge and entertain student.  Through Elementary Battle of the Books, we strive to promote a love for literature and the important character education goals of teamwork, respect, and good sportsmanship.

Elementary Battle of the Books is sponsored and supported by the North Carolina School Library Media Association.


Goals
  1. Motivate both readers and non-readers to discuss books with their peers
  2. Encourage students and teachers to expand their knowledge of new titles, authors, illustrators and a variety of literary genres
  3. Involve parents and other community members in school library programs


Program benefits
  1. Students collaborate as a team to reach a common goal
  2. Students read from a variety of genres that they may not have selected on their own
  3. Students are celebrated for reading and discussing literature
